WHO FOUNDED THE MODERN HOME TOUR AND WHY?

KW

Founded by Krisstina Wise of The GoodLIfe Team, the Austin Modern Home Tour has, in just few short years, become one of the premier events on the Austin calendar of events.  “Its purpose was simple – to highlight and promote the collaborative exchange between Real Estate Professionals, Architects and Developers and to invite Austinites to join the Modern Movement,” recalls Wise.

In conjunction with production partners Launch787 and Modern Home Tours, LLC, the Austin Modern Home Tour has grown from 8 homes in the downtown area to 16 spectacular examples of Modern design, construction and decor spread throughout Austin’s premier neighborhoods.  And with over 2500 visitors passing over the threshold of the 2012 Tour homes, it’s safe to say that the Austin Modern Home Tour offers something for everyone.

Since its inception the tour has been curated by Ingrid Spencer, contributing editor at Architectural Record. She is responsible for choosing the homes and making sure their is a great representation of modern in Austin.  ”We want the tour to be a fun and informative event, so there needs to be a range of scales, neighborhoods represented, and architectural techniques used.” states Ingrid.

HOW DO I TOUR AND WHERE ARE THE HOMES?

This is a self-paced, self-driving tour from 11am- 6pm. You may go in any order you choose and spend as much or as little time as you choose at each property. Only paid ticket-holders will be allowed to tour the homes during the Modern Home Tour. Advance ticket buyers must pick up their tickets at any of the will call locations first. Once you have your tickets, you may tour in any order you choose. Last year there were sixteen homes on the tour. Please feel free to take a look at our 2013 featured homes, and our Facebook and Pinterest pages to browse through photos of previous tours.

HOW MUCH ARE TICKETS?

Advance tickets are $30 until the day before the tour. Tickets purchased on day of tour will be $40 dollars. You can buy tickets here.

WHERE DO I PICK UP TICKETS?

Advance ticket buyers must pick up your tickets at one of the will call locations beginning at 11:00 am on February 1, 2014.

WHERE DO I PARK?

The Modern Home Tour attracts many people and neighborhood street parking is very limited. We strongly recommend carpooling and enjoying the experience with friends! PLEASE OBEY ALL TRAFFIC LAWS AND ORDINANCES.

WILL I BE ALLOWED TO WEAR SHOES INSIDE THE HOUSES?

We ask that you follow the rules at each home. Some properties have surfaces you can wear shoes on. Other properties will ask you to remove your shoes or put booties over them. Just in case, we recommend you wear something you can easily slip on and off and with socks.

IS PHOTOGRAPHY ALLOWED ON THE TOUR?

This is up to each architect and homeowner. Bring a camera, but be ready to keep it turned off at homes that ask you not to take photographs. Professional photos from the tour will be published on our Facebook and Pinterest pages for you to enjoy!

ARE CHILDREN ALLOWED ON THE TOUR?

Yes. Children under 12 are free. We want to introduce outstanding architecture to everyone! Parents, please just be aware of where your children are and what they are touching at all times. Also, babies in strollers can be tough — most properties have stairs and most will be somewhat crowded — getting strollers through could be a challenge. We advise a backpack instead of a stroller for the really little ones.

ARE PETS ALLOWED ON THE TOUR?

Please leave your pets at home. Thank you.

CAN I SIT ON FURNITURE IN THE HOUSES?

Please don’t sit on the furniture or use the bathrooms. Respect that each home is the pride and joy of the homeowner, and that they are opening their doors for all of us to take a peek inside.

WILL BATHROOMS BE AVAILABLE AT THE HOMES?

No. The bathrooms in most of the tour properties are showpieces. They are meant to be viewed on the tour and not used. If you need to use a facility please do it between stops on the tour.

ARE FOOD OR DRINKS ALLOWED ON THE TOUR?

Some of the homes will have snacks or drinks provided, in which case you are welcome to have them in the house. However, please leave any other food or beverages in your car.

WHY ARE THERE FOR SALE HOMES ON THE TOUR? CAN’T I JUST SEE THESE AT A COMMON OPEN HOUSE?

We believe that great Modern architecture is great whether the home happens to be for sale or not. While we do limit the number of “for sale” homes on tours, if the architecture is unique enough, we will include a few. Typically, these are homes where a Real Estate Agent will not hold an “open house,” but are only opened for serious potential buyers.

HOW DO I SUBMIT A HOME FOR THE UPCOMNG TOUR?

To submit your home to be in the 2014 Modern Home Tour Austin, please fill out the Property Submission Form. Submission Deadline for 2014 is January 11th.
